• What is our natural dog food made of?

  Riverwood dog food is a 100% natural food, which means that it is free from artificial odours, colours and flavours. All Riverwood recipes contain three different unique sources of protein. We deliberately use special proteins such as duck, pheasant, wild boar and venison, making it especially suitable for dogs with food allergies or intolerances. The meat we use comes from animals that have been allowed to roam freely (free run and free range), giving them a dignified existence and enabling them to develop better muscles. This in turn has a positive effect on the quality and taste of the meat.

  We do not use cereals or potatoes as carbohydrate sources in Riverwood. Yellow pea is used in Riverwood's recipes as a source of carbohydrates. These carbohydrates are broken down slowly, so that glucose gradually enters the bloodstream, thereby contributing to a stable and healthy blood sugar level. Functional herbs, vegetables and fruit are also added to support your dog's health and well-being.

  All Riverwood products are grain-free, because we believe that dogs are true carnivores and are not built to digest grains well. That's why all Riverwood products have a high meat content and are grain-free.

  Finally, each variant is enriched with glucosamine and chondroitin. Both nutrients support the joints of dogs. Glucosamine contributes to the formation and repair of cartilage. Chondroitin contributes to the elasticity of cartilage and slows down its degradation. The joints of large dog breeds must bear more weight, which puts them under greater strain, which is why both the Junior and Adult Large Breed variants contain extra glucosamine and chondroitin. This protects the cartilage in the joints from further breakdown and improves mobility and joint lubrication.

• What is the best dog food for my dog?

  Dogs are true carnivores and their digestive tract is built to optimally digest meat. Because dogs can easily digest animal protein, a diet high in meat is well-suited to the nutritional needs of these animals. That is why we at Riverwood believe that the best dog food should have a high meat content and be low in grains, or preferably 100% grain-free.

  Grains in dog food can cause food allergies, food intolerances and skin problems. We also believe that the best dog food contains no artificial colours, flavours or fragrances and that only natural preservatives are used. 

  Finally, the best dog food contains sources of carbohydrates that are broken down slowly (such as yellow peas). In this way, the carbohydrate sources contribute to a healthy and stable blood sugar level.

• What is a good feeding schedule for a dog?

  It is important to give your dog the right amount of food to avoid health problems. Each packet contains a food table with guidelines for the recommended daily amount (g). Of course, it is possible to deviate from a recommended dietary allowance because every dog's metabolism and level of activity is different. An active dog needs more food than a less active dog; if you give an active dog too little food, the food will not meet the animal's nutritional needs. If you feed a less active dog too much, you run the risk of your dog becoming too heavy.

  So take the recommended daily quantity as advice and see how your dog reacts to it. Is your dog's stool not compact? Then try giving your dog a little less food.

  In addition to a healthy diet, your dog needs drinking water. It is therefore important to ensure that your dog always has plenty of fresh drinking water available.
