Causes of ear infection in dogs
A disturbance of the balance in the bacterial and/or yeast position in the ear is the most common cause of an ear infection. In dogs that have droopy or hairy ears, a breeding ground can develop more quickly in which harmless fungi, yeasts and bacteria multiply. Then a lot of brown-colored earwax can be created, which causes the ear canal to become clogged and thus damage the ear. Other causes of ear infections are ear mites, objects in the ear, narrow ear building, swimming in dirty water or skinallergies. Dogs that have allergies to certain substances in the environment or food can get general skin problems. This can also be a cause of ear infection.
If you think that the dog suffers from an ear infection, it is wise to plan a visit to the veterinarian. With an otoscope, the veterinarian can examine your dog's ears. In addition, the ear can be rinsed to remove the thickest accumulation of earwax. Furthermore, the veterinarian can check if the eardrum is still intact, so that it is safe to use ear ointment. Smearing ointment on a broken eardrum can get into the middle ear and cause serious damage.
Does my dog suffer from ear mites?
Ear mite is an invisible visible, light gray, arachnid parasite that can cause damage to the inside of the ear canal. Dogs that suffer from ear mites have severe itching at the ears, scratches a lot and shakes its head. You can recognize ear mites by small black dots and dark brown earwax in the ear. Ear mites are highly contagious and are transmitted when animals have direct contact with each other. Go to the vet for the right treatment.
Is my dog deaf?
Deafness in dogs can be caused by:
- Age
- Otitis
- Too much noise in the area
- Damage in the event of an accident
- Congenital abnormality
- Meningitis
- Tumour
Help, my dog has a wound on his ear!
If your dog has a bleeding wound, you need to hold the ear up and tie a tea towel around it. When the ear bleeds heavily, you should immediately take the dog to the vet. If there is a small wound you can treat it with natural products such as Betadine, Geranium and Tea tree. If the wound is still damp and numerous after a few days, call the veterinarian.
Wa is an ear haematoma in dogs?
A lump in the ear can occur from shaking, scratching or bumping an object. This is called an ear hemorrhag and is usually a bruise in the ear. If it did not occur suddenly, it may be an abscess or tumor. Go to the vet for treatment.
Bald patches near my dog's ears
Hereditary predisposition, hormonal disorder, fungal infection or scabies can be the causes of bald ears or bald spots on the ears. If your dog suffers from baldness due to hereditary predisposition, this is unfortunately not treatable, for the remaining causes there is a treatment. Do you want the right treatment? Then go to the vet.
