My dog barks a lot
Barking is a natural behavior of the dog. If dogs continue to bark and/or cry, this can cause a number of problems; it causes nuisance to the neighbors and occasionally entails unnecessary action by the animal protection or police. Sometimes persistent barking and/or crying can lead to (mandatory) renouncing of your dog.
In dogs that are alone at home for a longer period of time, nuisance from barking and/or crying often occurs. A dog is a companion animal, which means that most dogs do not feel comfortable once left alone. If a dog does not feel comfortable as soon as he is alone, he can start barking. In this way, the dog tries to get in touch with you. The dog regularly manages to get a owner back. Punishing the dog directly for barking has no effect; He was left alone, he started barking, and you came back. So the dog thinks that barking is good behavior for which he is rewarded. As a result, the dog does not learn to stop barking and this can then cause nuisance.
You always have to honor your dogthat it's okay to be alone. You can start to leave your dog alone for a few minutes and then reward it when you come back. Now your dog learns that being alone is not so annoying at all. Leave the dog alone for a little longer each time and give him a lump when you leave, for example. This lets the dog know that you always come back so that he does not cause problems. Especially puppies you can learn in this way that staying at home alone is not a big deal at all. With dogs that are already a little older or come from a shelter, this is a lot more difficult and sometimes not at all. For these dogs, an anti-bark band is often a well-functioning and animal-friendly solution.
